“Hunter First Project” Workshop at Toronto Diggers with DANTIA.

Hunter First

Lake Mac Business is pleased to share an exciting opportunity for local businesses and community members to out the Hunter First and get involved in the Hunter Transmission Project (HTP). EnergyCo NSW, in collaboration with Dantia, is hosting an industry briefing workshop at Toronto Diggers on Wednesday, 28 August, from 5.30pm to 7.00pm. This workshop is a fantastic chance for local businesses to learn more about the HTP and explore ways to become part of this critical infrastructure project.

What is the Hunter Transmission Project (HTP)?

The Hunter Transmission Project is a State significant infrastructure initiative designed to strengthen and expand the energy network in the Hunter region. The project includes the construction of a new 500-kilovolt (kV) overhead transmission line, spanning approximately 100 kilometers from Bayswater in the Upper Hunter to Olney in the Lower Hunter. Additionally, it will involve the construction of two new switching stations and upgrades to existing substations in Bayswater and Eraring.

A Hunter First Approach

At the heart of the HTP is a “Hunter-first” philosophy. EnergyCo NSW is committed to prioritising local employment and leveraging the region’s diverse economic skill base during the planning and construction phases of the project. The initiative is designed to generate local jobs and support businesses while aligning with First Nations Guidelines to enhance income and employment opportunities in the region.

Opportunities for Local Businesses

EnergyCo is in the process of building a local supplier database, which will be a key component of the HTP’s procurement process. Local suppliers and businesses will have the chance to be involved in the project’s design and construction phases, which are slated to begin in 2026.

Some of the workforce and supplier opportunities include:

  • Labourers, security guards, cleaners, and mining escorts
  • Specialised crews such as plant operators, tower assembly crews, and foundation crews
  • Professional services including engineers, planners, scientists, and surveyors
  • Contractors and service providers like electricians, civil contractors, arborists, and local retailers

EnergyCo will appoint two main contractors to manage the design and construction of the HTP. When these contractors are selected, local businesses will have the opportunity to tender for various services, with a focus on prioritising local employment and service engagement.

Attend the Industry Briefing at Toronto Diggers

To help businesses navigate this exciting opportunity, EnergyCo NSW is hosting an industry briefing at Toronto Diggers on 28 August. The session will cover the HTP’s procurement process, project timelines, and how businesses can get involved.
