Hunter Writers Centre is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to engaging, educating, and employing aspiring and established writers and other creatives in the Hunter Region of New South Wales and nationally throughout Australia.
We aim to be a guiding light for collaboration within the creative arts, with a focus on storytelling.
We service our Members through writing groups, resources, courses, publishing and employment opportunities.
We service local businesses by referring and brokering recommended writers for copywriting and business enhancement – marketing, advertising, promotion, web content.
We deliver national writing awards: Grieve Writing Project; The Newcastle Poetry Prize; The Newcastle Short Story Award and publish the best of Australian writing via annual anthologies of the best of Australian poets, writers, essayists.
We support the region’s unique arts, culture and tourism via Lighthouse Arts on Nobbys-Whibayganba headland by providing studio spaces to Hunter-based creatives and an arts trading store and exhibition spaces to showcase our creatives to the hundreds of visitors to the site each weekend.
